Our farmers families
Close to 99% of Australian farms are estimated to be operated by their families.
Farms are big businesses, run by small teams that are mostly kept in the family, with 99% of Australian farms estimated to be operated by families. Almost 30% Aussie farmers don’t employ staff and almost 38% employ just one or two people.
Farming or ‘work’ is in a farmers’ DNA. It’s their identity and passion—and it’s certainly not for the faint-hearted.
Farmers are more likely to experience depression and anxiety and are almost twice as likely to die of suicide when compared to the general population. Shockingly, an estimated one Aussie farmer dies of suicide every 10 days.

Abby and Nathan’s Story

Little Yara had been undergoing treatment for a serious, terminal illness in Sydney. Aussie Helpers was determined to make this difficult time a little easier for her family and provided gift cards and fuel cards to help her parents, Abby and Nathan, travel to Sydney and bring their daughter home in-between surgeries.
“Your kindness and generosity has made it possible for the whole family to spend some extra quality time with Yara before she goes through another admission and surgery. This means the world to us, and we cannot thank you enough for your help.”
