Brekkie in a bag
Our farmers are feeding our nation but some are struggling to feed their own families. The irony is tragic.
The increased cost of living is putting pressure on millions of Australians, including farmers. We read about high inflation, increasing interest rates, workforce shortages and increasing costs in the news every day. But what we don’t read is that, while many families are starting to struggle to feed themselves, the farmers that work from sun-up to sunset to feed our country are also starting to struggle to feed their families.
Aussie Helpers has received increasing reports from farming families struggling to feed themselves—and their kids are starting to go to school hungry. This is on top of farming kids already being left behind academically compared to their city cousins, with significant education inequality experienced across rural and remote Australia.

It’s well known that eating a healthy breakfast is linked to improved concentration and knowledge retention, high academic achievement, healthier bodies and increased energy, which is particularly important for young kids because their brain can consume half of their body’s energy.
With the help of Sanitarium, Aussie Helpers is ensuring Aussie farming kids start their day with a nutritious breakfast and, in a small but truly meaningful way, help farming families struggling with the increased cost of living to stay on their land and continue to feed the nation.
