AHVISE
Aussie Helpers Volunteers for Isolated Student Education (AHVISE) tutors generously give their time and expertise to help farming kids with their education.
We’re proud that AHVISE is one of Australia’s leading tutoring initiatives for rural families. We’ve helped more than 1,500 farming kids.
Our AHVISE ‘Angels’—experienced, often retired teacher and tutor volunteers—donate their time and expertise to support geographically isolated families with their kids’ education needs—both virtually and in-person. Our Angels play a particularly important role, given the continued education inequality farming kids face compared to their city cousins.
To support Aussie Helpers to improve education inequality and make a difference to the futures of bush kids today, please donate.

Audrey & Bruce’s Story
Retired couple Audrey and Bruce Flood from Sydney are two of our long-term and much loved AHVISE Angels. They’ve donated six weeks of their retirement every year for the last 10 years to travel 4,000 kilometres and deliver in-person lessons for kids in a farming family who live on the Atherton Tablelands, a 4.5 hour drive from Cairns.
As a retired teacher, Audrey is well qualified for the job, having taught in the Pilbara, North Queensland, Sydney, Adelaide, Fiji and England. She also worked in China as a university lecturer for 14 years, where Bruce followed suit, switching from his mechanical engineering profession to become the founder of an accredited English language training centre in Beijing.
While they truly make a difference to the lives of bush kids, they also recognise the impact volunteering has on their lives.

As with all volunteering, you always get back more than you put in and we love it.

VOLUNTEERS
Aussie Helpers welcomes current and retired teachers and tutors with the appropriate experience to volunteer through our AHVISE program and help make a real and immediate difference to bush kids.
We are pleased to reimburse travel costs (up to $1,500 per placement), which is funded entirely through the generous donations of individuals and businesses in the community.
